X-Ray Leg

YPC’s all new “X-Ray” gas outboard leg

We at Young’z Performance Craft are now very happy to present to you our very own rc Gas outboard leg, tried and tested to deliver what it takes to be competitive in the international rc F1 Gas outboard tunnel hull class.

Our initial motivation to manufacture our own leg was simply to provide a more affordable and available product for our growing South African F1 gas outboard market. However, after investing all our past racing and R&D experience into the overall design, we are proud to present a product that not only is affordable, but really performs extremely well, being thoroughly tested and raced over the past months, proving to be very robust and worthy of the first place trophies it has brought home thus far.

Points to mention about the X-Ray Gas outboard leg :

  1. Very robust, made of 316 Stainless Steel – Including all running parts, the complete overall weight = 1050 grams.
  2. Easy, left hand screw out, drive shaft housing removal for flex shaft inspection and lubrication.
  3. Extremely stream lined, limiting the drag through the water, whilst allowing good water flow over the prop in the turns, providing a constant prop thrust line, preventing blow out.
  4. Designed to facilitate all 26cc Zenoah type marine style motors.
  5. Exhaust bracket mounting point included in the design.
  6. A completely assembled, bolt on unit, with the ability to adjust the height and trim angle with ease.
  7. Steering arms are included, with a full length steering pivot pin and bush, limiting the premature wear experienced in the shorter bushings, which leads to critical trim set up failure and excessive vibration.
  8. Trim angle is adjusted behind the steering pivot pin so as to avoid the dreaded “arc travel” (height variation of the prop) in the turns that is eminent in all legs which effect the trim angle adjustment by tilting the steering pivot pin. (the main reason for boat set up frustration)
  9. Due to the overall design, there is a small degree of flex within the unit, acting as a partial vibration absorber.
  10. The “thick wall brass flex shaft tube” has a number of advantages that lengthen the life span of the flex shaft considerably.

  • It has a 90mm radius, which relieves the flex shaft even further and lessons the heat build up in the windings.
  • It has a small tolerance (clearance) between the inner tube wall and the outer flex shaft, limiting the amount of windup the cable can achieve when under extreme torque.
  • It transfers the heat that is generated within the flex shaft far more efficiently than the usual Teflon tube, which generally retains the heat.
  • It has a superior, purpose made flex shaft that has proven to perform very reliably under very competitive racing conditions.

Overall, the YPC X-Ray gas outboard leg has been built strictly as a rc gas outboard “Race Purpose” leg, certainly not satisfying the desire of the Scale builder, yet has a striking lean, mean look of its own that sets it apart from the rest.
